“The security of personal data of Russians collected in the internal systems of banks should be adequate to the risks that arise,” the message said.

The Central Bank said that the substitution of biometric data during the collection and transfer within a credit institution, the deletion of personal data, as well as their compromise, pose a serious threat to customers.

In this regard, the Central Bank has amended the bill on biometrics and proposes to present to banks the same requirements for the storage of personal data as the Unified Biometric System (EBS).

It is clarified that the regulator intends to control the safety of all casts of the face and voice, and not just those sent to the EBS.

In November 2019, it was reported that Russian banks could introduce remote identification into loyalty programs and lower rates on loans issued using biometrics.
