Such a mechanism for compensating customers permanently deprived of electricity has already been imposed on the distributor Enedis since 2017, but it is capped at 480 euros for a subscription of 6 kVA (kilovolt-amperes, measuring the electrical power that the meter can support) and 720 euros for a 9 kVA subscription, Enedis told AFP.

Current regulations provide that if individuals "remain without electricity for more than 5 hours, they systematically benefit from the payment of a lump sum of 2 euros excluding tax per kVA of power subscribed for each 5 consecutive hours of power outage. electricity, within a limit of 8 days and 8 hours maximum, explained the manager. "The customer does not have to take any action since this procedure is automatic.

Enedis pays the sum in question to the electricity supplier who transfers it to the customer's energy bill,” added Enedis.

In total, 1.2 million homes were deprived of electricity across France, including 780,000 in Brittany, after the passage of storm Ciaran, marked by wind gusts exceeding 170 km/h.

In addition to compensation, Enedis indicates that it has mobilized 70 million euros to restore power to customers cut off in Brittany, repair power lines and send equipment and its agents to the disaster areas.
