A fire accident occurred in the dimchae kimchi refrigerator produced before September 2005, and the manufacturer Winia dimchae collects (recalls) the entire product.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the National Institute of Technology and Standards, announced today (2nd) that together with the Seoul Disaster Headquarters, it confirmed that certain parts in the old Kimchi refrigerator for Winia dimchae continued to generate fires and induced voluntary product collection.

According to the National Institute of Technology and Standards, a total of 239 kimchi refrigerator fires over the past five years, of which 207 fires related to Winia dimchae products produced before September 2005 were counted.

An official from the City Fire & Disaster Headquarters said, "We have confirmed that a fire has occurred due to contact defects at the relay contacts due to damage to the relay (relay) contact and the printed circuit board (PCB) insulation caused by long-term use of the Kimchi refrigerator."

There are a total of 2.78 million dimchae kimchi refrigerators produced before September 2005, and it is a model with a lid-type (top opening and closing type) structure with a display for operation on the front and a machine room (assembly of wiring and electrical parts) at the bottom.

Prior to this recall, Winia Dimchae had virtually carried out a voluntary recall, such as replacing 41% of parts of the product's sales.

Winia Dimchae said, "Fire may occur due to deterioration of parts of old kimchi refrigerators that have been used for a long time and short circuits caused by moisture and dust being left for a long time." "Do it".

In addition to product collection and replacement, Winia Dimchae offers ▲cleaning and safety inspection of the product's machine room ▲replacement of old parts free of charge ▲reward sales with discounts applied when customers wish to purchase new products.

Consumers who own the product can receive free replacement of obsolete parts at any time of the year without any time limit.

You can check it on the Winia Dimchae website or the customer service office (☎ 1588-9588).

Winia Dimchae decided to notify the recalled customers separately and inform them through information posters at specialty stores and service centers nationwide.

In addition, we plan to increase the recall fulfillment rate by cooperating with related organizations such as the City Gas Association so that a safety inspector who visits customers' homes identifies consumers who use dimchae kimchi refrigerators and initiates a recall.

Winia Dimchae explained, "We will perform voluntary recalls to prevent accidents that may occur in the aged kimchi refrigerator and fulfill our responsibilities as a manufacturer."

In addition to Winia Dimchae, the KPS plans to conduct joint investigations with the Fire Service Agency and other companies' kimchi refrigerators to analyze the status and cause of the fire.

The City Fire and Disaster Headquarters said, "In the case of kimchi refrigerators, they are often used as a multipurpose refrigerator without disposing of the old kimchi refrigerator after purchasing a new product, but placing it on a balcony (veranda) or a utility room. The enclosure is constructed with insulation, so in the event of a fire, a large amount of toxic smoke is generated, and the risk of personal injury is very high.”
