A woman at the helm of the World Trade Organization for the first time



The World Trade Organization announced that it has been agreed to select "Ngozi Iweala", former Nigerian Finance Minister and Yo Myung, Minister of Trade of the Republic of Korea, two candidates who will enter the third and final round to choose the new Director-General of the World Trade Organization to succeed Roberto Azvedo, who had previously announced his resignation for personal reasons. Today, to the Ambassador of New Zealand and its permanent representative to the World Trade Organization and the current president of the General Council of the organization, the highest decision-making body in the organization with the exception of the Ministerial Conference, which meets every two years.


The selection of the two finalists represents a precedent in the history of the organization, whereby a woman will subsequently assume the position of Director General after consultations to select one of them from 19 to 27 of the current October.
