  For the first time on Line 18, 8.6-meter large-diameter shield machines were used in water-rich sand and pebble formations. The maximum daily excavation of a single machine was 28.8 meters and the highest monthly excavation reached 452.5 meters, setting a national historical record for large-diameter shield tunneling speed.

The biggest engineering problem in the construction of Line 18 is the need to overcome the longest high-gas-gas long tunnel in the history of urban rail transit construction in China-the Longquanshan Tunnel with a length of about 9.7 kilometers.

The tunnel intensively passes through the oil and gas storage areas of Su Wharf and Luodai Gas Field. Because of its large gas escape, high degree of dispersion, and extremely high risk of inrush, it is very rare in domestic urban rail transit construction.
