On Sunday, September 27, French President Emmanuel Macron held a press conference at the Elysee Palace on the economic and political crisis in Lebanon.
He pointed to the “collective betrayal” of the Lebanese political class in the failure of the formation of a government.

This follows the failure of the Lebanese political class
to form a government
, contrary to the commitment it made in early September.
The Lebanese parties "
bear full responsibility
" for this failure, and "
it will be heavy
", added the French president.
Hezbollah "
must not believe itself stronger than it is

The French president attacked the Shiite Hezbollah party, which "
must not believe itself stronger than it is
".
Hezbollah, he said, “
cannot at the same time be an army at war against Israel, a militia unleashed against civilians in Syria, and a respectable party in Lebanon.
It is up to him to demonstrate that he respects the Lebanese as a whole.
In recent days, he has clearly shown the opposite
”.
Lebanese leaders have a "
last chance
" to ensure that the commitments made in early September to form a mission government and obtain international aid are respected, Emmanuel Macron also said.
"
The roadmap of September 1 remains (...), it is the only initiative taken at national, regional and international level (...), it is not withdrawn from the table (...) but it is now up to Lebanese officials to seize this last chance themselves,
”he said.
