Kyushu Shinkansen Nagasaki Route Nagasaki-Takeo Onsen Opening in the fall of 2022 September 24, 16:06

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has announced that it will open the section between Nagasaki and Takeo Onsen in Saga Prefecture in the fall of next year, out of the Kyushu Shinkansen Nagasaki route that is currently under construction.

The Nagasaki route of the Kyushu Shinkansen is a 143 km section that connects Hakata and Nagasaki in Fukuoka Prefecture via Saga Prefecture.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has stated that the section between Nagasaki and Takeo Onsen in Saga Prefecture, which started construction eight years ago, is "aiming to open in 2022."

Regarding this, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced a more concrete policy when it opens in "Autumn 2022" at a meeting of the ruling party's project team held on the 24th.

On the other hand, of the Nagasaki route, for the section between Takeo Onsen and Shin-Tosu in Saga Prefecture, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has proposed to carry out an environmental impact assessment necessary for deciding the maintenance method, but Saga Prefecture has proposed. We are consistently opposed to "full standard" development due to the increased financial burden on the local community.

In light of these circumstances, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has a policy of refraining from recording the cost of environmental impact assessment in the budget request for the next fiscal year.

For this reason, the Nagasaki route of the Kyushu Shinkansen

will start operation in the fall of next year as a "full standard" Shinkansen between Nagasaki and Takeo Onsen, while the section between Takeo

Onsen and Hakata will have a limited express on the conventional line. It will be a provisional opening of the running "relay system".
