Abu Dhabi International Airport has launched a new initiative for international transit passengers, with the aim of reducing transfer time between flights, by speeding up flight transfer procedures by 27%, and providing a smooth and comfortable travel experience.

The new "fast lane diversion" initiative allows transit passengers on flights arriving from specific destinations in Europe, the United States and Canada to take advantage of the new and simplified security checks at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

As it will facilitate the travelers' trips towards their next destinations.

The initiative was developed and implemented in cooperation with the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the General Administration of Customs, Abu Dhabi Airports, Etihad Airways and partner airports.

In this regard, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi Airports said: “The“ Fast Corridor for Flight Diversion ”initiative launched by Abu Dhabi International Airport comes within the framework of the broad efforts taken by Abu Dhabi Airports to support the growth of travel and air transport, especially in the phase of After the Coronavirus pandemic, by working to facilitate faster and more efficient transport operations, as the new initiative will contribute to strengthening Abu Dhabi's position as a global hub connecting East and West.

Abu Dhabi Airports Chief Executive Officer Sherif Hashem Al Hashemi said, "We are proud to announce the launch of the new" flight diversion fast lane "initiative at Abu Dhabi International Airport, which will allow a specific group of transit passengers to benefit from the speedy connection between diverted flights, thus reducing the total time of their flights. In addition to avoiding the possibility of not catching up with their transferred flights (transit), which allows them to spend extra time to enjoy all the features and amenities that we provide in the facilities of Abu Dhabi International Airport. ”

Al Hashemi added: “This great development to enhance the experience of transit travelers, as well as the comprehensive precautionary measures that we follow at Abu Dhabi International Airport, reflects our commitment to travelers as our top priority, and to ensure their health, safety and comfort throughout their journey through the capital of the UAE, and the initiative will be implemented at Abu Dhabi Airport. The first phase focuses on Etihad Airways flights coming from selected destinations in Europe and North America, which will greatly benefit airlines in Western countries. The second phase is scheduled to start in 2021 to include a wider group of airlines and additional destinations. Later, it will include new procedures that include cargo operations alongside passengers.

In light of the increasing levels of demand for air travel annually, airports around the world have come to the need to improve the efficiency of operations, especially with regard to the passenger journey and the transfer of their luggage from one airport to another.

The new procedures at Abu Dhabi airports and other similar measures adopted internationally are the result of ongoing discussions and cooperation between airports around the world.
