On September 14, Nord Stream 2 reportedly "presented the reasons for its appeal (filed on June 15, 2020) to the Düsseldorf High Regional Court against the Federal Network Agency's decision to reject the company's application for an exemption from the amended EU gas directive."

At the end of July, Nord Stream 2 AG filed an appeal against the EU court's decision, which refused to consider the company's claim against the gas directive on the pipeline.

In May, an EU court rejected the claims of Nord Stream AG and Nord Stream 2 AG against the extension of EU norms to gas pipelines from third countries.
