Rakuten Mobile smartphone terminal sales discount over the upper limit Administrative Guidance Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications September 11 19:54

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announced on the 11th that Rakuten Mobile, which entered the mobile phone business in earnest in April, was discounting more than the legal limit when selling smartphone terminals. On the other hand, we provided administrative guidance to prevent recurrence.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Rakuten Mobile was giving 22,000 yen worth of points that can be used on mail-order sites etc. as a substantial discount in the campaign to sell smartphone terminals this July. is.

Regarding smartphone terminal prices, as part of a policy to lower the level of mobile phone charges, the maximum discount is 20,000 yen from October last year, but Rakuten Mobile consumes it when setting the discount. It explains that the tax rate of 10% has been added.

Regarding this, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications judged that the upper limit was exceeded because the reduced tax rate would be applied if points were used on the mail order site and fresh food could be purchased, and it may hinder proper competitive relations on the 11th. We provided administrative guidance to the company to prevent recurrence.

Rakuten Mobile said that it was not fully aware of the law, and said, "We deeply apologize for causing concern and inconvenience to our customers and related parties, and would like to make efforts to comply with the law and prevent recurrence."

This is the sixth time Rakuten Mobile has received administrative guidance from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications since March last year.
