Chinanews.com, August 13th. Ren Hongbin, Assistant Minister of Commerce, said on the 13th that the United States has recently introduced some restrictive measures, mainly based on China’s implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, such as announcing the cancellation of Hong Kong’s special treatment and suspension of export license exemptions. These measures have seriously interfered in China’s internal affairs, undermined Sino-US relations, and harmed others and disadvantaged ourselves.

On the 13th, the State Council Information Office held a regular briefing on the State Council’s policies, and invited Ren Hongbin, Assistant Minister of Commerce, and relevant officials of the State Administration of Taxation to introduce the "Opinions on Further Stabilizing Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment".

At the meeting, a reporter asked: What impact will the US sanctions on Hong Kong have on China's foreign trade? Ren Hongbin made the above statement in response to this question.

Ren Hongbin said that historically, Hong Kong has become one of the world's important free trade ports relying on its superior port conditions, convenient personnel exchanges, high-quality services, and convenient customs clearance. Especially since the reform and opening up, the economic and trade exchanges between Hong Kong and the Mainland have become increasingly close, and their advantages have complemented each other. They have played a significant role in the development of foreign trade in the Mainland. The status of Hong Kong as a separate customs territory cannot be granted by the United States. It is stipulated by the WTO and accepted and recognized by all members. With the signing and implementation of the CEPA Agreement on Trade in Goods, the liberalization and facilitation of trade in goods between the Mainland and Hong Kong will be further deepened, and Hong Kong will also play an important role in China's foreign trade.

"We will actively take measures to further strengthen the economic integration between the Mainland and Hong Kong, further expand opening up under the CEPA framework, support Hong Kong's full participation in the "Belt and Road" construction, promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and promote Hong Kong's stability, prosperity and development. Ren Hongbin said.
