The main UK tourist groups, including British Airways and easyJet airlines, the tour operator Tui or Heathrow Airport, have sent a letter to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, criticizing the decision to impose a quarantine on travelers from Spain, a measure that has been widely criticized by the tourism sector in Spain (airlines, hoteliers ...) given that the United Kingdom is our main issuing market. One in four tourists who visit us are English.

In the letter, almost fifty leaders of the aviation, travel and tourism industries ask the British Prime Minister for the "immediate creation" of regional travel corridors. "They criticize that the quarantine for Spain " represents the latest blow to a sector that he runs the risk of permanent scarring. "

"We fully support the goal of maintaining public health and supporting travel, but only where it is safe to do so," they point out, adding that the quarantine measure will simply "further harm the sector by creating uncertainty for travelers."

The letter is signed by, among others, the CEO of British Airways and Easyjet, that of the tour operator TUI, those of Luton, Heathrow, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool and Gatwick airports, among others.

The islands

The businessmen criticize that the recommendations not to also travel to the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands changed "two days after" the quarantine was decided "without any obvious reason." "It is clear that the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands do not have the same epidemiological situation as other parts of Spain, with Covid rates that are lower than those in the United Kingdom," they say.

"That means that we are in a situation where the government advises against traveling to areas in Spain that have lower Covid rates than those in the United Kingdom," they add.

The entrepreneurs propose to create regional travel corridors, so that they can travel without quarantine "to unaffected parts of a country, including not only Spain, but also other key markets for trade and tourism such as the United States or Canada."
