• Epidemic: United Kingdom reimposes quarantine on travelers arriving from Spain
  • Direct: latest news about the coronavirus

The tour operator TUI has canceled its flights to peninsular Spain and the Canary Islands, after the British Government has imposed a quarantine of fourteen days on citizens arriving from the Spanish State, confirmed the director of TUI in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Andrew Flintham.

Flintham said that tourists who are already in Spanish territory will be able to return to the United Kingdom on the flight they had already booked , while those who were due to leave this Sunday will be contacted to change their reservation or receive a refund.

The executive expressed his "incredible disappointment" at not having known "more in advance" the intentions of the Prime Minister's Executive, Boris Johnson, who on Saturday afternoon announced the imposition since Sunday of a quarantine of 14 days due to the outbreak of Covid-19 .

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against traveling to peninsular Spain "except for essential movements" , although in this case it indicates that the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands are exempt from this recommendation.

In his statement, Flintham states that he "does not understand" how it is possible that quarantine has been decreed for Spain and its islands when the recommendation for foreign travel exempts the Balearic and Canary Islands , considering that the islands present less risk.

"It shows why clear regional air corridors should be considered , " said the manager in his note.

Stressing that everyone's health and safety is his priority, Flintham says that "the British Government must work closely with the travel industry, as this degree of uncertainty and confusion is damaging to business and disappointing to those who long for a well-deserved rest" .

The sudden decision of the British Government, also announced over the weekend, when there are usually more flights, has outraged the tourism and travel sector , in addition to thousands of citizens who are now frustrated with their vacation plans.
