A report issued by the registration and commercial licensing sector in the Dubai Economy showed that the total number of effective licenses in the field of developing and managing electronic commerce platforms reached 1969 licenses in the emirate, while the average annual growth rate of new licenses in this activity for the last five years reached 120%, while Last year, it recorded the highest growth rate of 183%.

According to the report, businessmen acquired the highest percentage of licenses, as they constituted 91.3% of the number of licenses, while businesswomen accounted for 4.5%, and the proportion of legal persons (companies) reached 4.2%. The "merchant license", which deals with licensing innovative and commercial projects, which are managed through websites and social media, represented 28% of the total licenses in this field.

The report pointed out that with regard to the legal form of effective licenses in the field of developing and managing e-commerce platforms, licenses of individual institutions come to the fore with 59%, followed by limited liability institutions with 25.4%. The legal forms also include: civil works, a limited liability company - one person, a branch of a company or establishment based in a free zone, a branch of a foreign company, a branch of a Gulf company, a branch of a company based in another emirate, and a joint venture company.

The Dubai Economic Department said in a statement yesterday that the figures confirm the vital role of the UAE in general, and the Emirate of Dubai in particular, in raising the huge number of emerging projects that have been implemented, particularly in the areas of retail and technology.
