The economic recovery policy led by the government will be green, industrial and geared towards "the smallest", without forgetting the keeping of public accounts, Bruno Le Maire promised on Tuesday. The Minister of Economy, Finance and Recovery has been confirmed in Bercy and will have to pilot this recovery.

Relaunching the economy will constitute "an overwhelming task", "at the moment when France is facing its most serious economic crisis since 1929", he warned during the handover between the old and the new ministerial team installed on Monday in Bercy.

"It will be an economic recovery that will first give all its attention to the smallest," continued Bruno Le Maire, who targeted "those who have been hit the hardest in the country". He cited in particular the self-employed, when Alain Griset, now ex-president of the Union of local businesses (U2P), entered the government as Minister Delegate for Small and Medium Enterprises.

"Bankruptcies and layoffs are before us"

"[They] have taken this crisis head on and [they] know even better than us that the hardest part is ahead of us, that bankruptcies are ahead of us, that layoffs are ahead of us, that the risk of impoverishment of the territories is before us, ”insisted the Minister.

"The first role which is ours is to support companies during this period", added Alain Griset, evoking a "better future" to "prepare".

Concern for public accounts

The other recovery priorities will be ecological transition and the reconstruction of industry, he detailed, with the creation of a delegated ministry for industry led by Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

"We are not going to drop (the) supply policy", aimed at improving the competitiveness of industrial companies, said Bruno Le Maire, recalling the government's intention to reduce production taxes. But, now also in charge of the Budget, with Olivier Dussopt new Minister Delegate for Public Accounts, he estimated that “we can make the recovery and remain concerned about public accounts. I don't see any contradiction between the two ”.

Last week, the Court of Auditors had warned of the need not to further indebt France despite the crisis and to plan for a debt reduction trajectory. "We will keep the public accounts", assured Bruno Le Maire.

Previously, Gérald Darmanin, former Minister of Public Accounts promoted to the Ministry of the Interior, had displayed his "emotion" to leave Bercy, welcoming in particular the success of the reform of the withholding tax on income tax .
