  • Taxes. The Bank of Spain warns of the risk of relocation if the Government approves the rates 'Google' and 'Tobin' unilaterally

The Bank of Spain considers that it is the best option for the inevitable tax increase that the coronavirus crisis will cause. Because it is the tax on which there is a greater margin of increase, and it also generates less distortion than other tax measures by affecting the final spending decision. But in the Treasury they do not contemplate this increase and continue betting on their fiscal plan: raise personal income tax to high incomes, toughen companies and take forward the Google Rate and the Tobin Rate .

This has been pointed out by the Minister of Finance herself and also a government spokesperson, María Jesús Montero, who in an interview with Antena 3 has indicated that those who have to pay the most have the most, and that the "red line" of the Executive is that the tax increase cannot affect the middle and working classes. This, therefore, rules out an increase in VAT such as that proposed by the Bank of Spain, and which would lead to many products that are taxed at reduced (10%) or super-reduced (4%) rates passing the general rate (21 %).

That is not contemplated for now, insist from the Ministry, while referring to the roadmap already marked in the PSOE-Podemos agreement. This agreement also includes the tightening of environmental figures such as the increase in the tax on diesel. Precisely this tax breaks that maxim of the Executive of "who more has, more must pay", since it will affect all the citizens who own a diesel vehicle.
