The tax authorities, more and more efficient, recovered more than 11 billion euros last year thanks to tax audits. A record year.

Fraud the tax authorities is becoming more and more dangerous. The amounts recovered at the end of controls have never been higher. More than 11 billion euros were recovered thanks to tax audits last year. A record year. To give you an idea, 11 billion euros is the amount of credits allocated to sustainable development in last year's state budget. Or just under 10% of income tax revenue.

As public spending soars due to the crisis, this revenue is welcome. They also show that the tax authorities are more and more efficient in their controls. And then there is another phenomenon that is playing out, it is the new law on the right to make mistakes: more and more taxpayers accept to correct their taxes because they made a mistake.

This year is very atypical: in mid-March, the taxman completely stopped its controls. It is absolutely new. So they will resume during the summer but Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of Public Accounts, told us that he had given orders not to control the sectors in greatest difficulty, except very obvious fraud.

Beyond that, you should know that the controls are becoming more and more sophisticated. The taxman uses the technique of "data mining", massive data analysis, thanks in particular to the international exchange of bank files. Which means he knows better where to look for the best chance of catching fraudsters. And guess what, the results are there: the money comes in!
