Companies and unions have agreed to the latest government proposal to extend the temporary employment regulation files (ERTE) until next September. The new scheme will be approved tomorrow in the Cabinet to replace the one agreed last May, which expires next Tuesday.

The agreement has come about after four failed offers from the government and a joint counterproposal by unions and employers to extend the current scheme, which was not approved by the Executive. Just hours after the CEOE employers concluded its annual meeting, the agreement was produced, by which the Government tries to lead hundreds of thousands of Spanish companies subjected to ERTE with around two million suspended jobs. The unions had already been in favor of the agreement and the confirmation of the businessmen was missing, who were already critical of the pact last May.

"Consulted the government bodies this Thursday, unanimous support has been given to the proposal, while it presents important advances with respect to the initial proposal. However, we continue working so that in September we can address how the last one will be faced quarter of the year, always with the desire shared by the parties that by then all possible activity has been recovered, "says the employers in a note about the agreement.
