Domestic shipment of PCs decreased by more than 20% Demand for notebook type continues due to telework 16:24 on June 22

Last month, domestic PC shipments were down about 20% from the same month last year. However, industry groups say that demand for notebook PCs has continued to a certain extent due to the increase in telework due to the influence of the new coronavirus.

According to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, which is made by electrical equipment manufacturers, domestic PC shipments last month were 540,000 units, a 21.7% decrease from the same month last year.

This year's reaction is a major factor behind the strong demand for replacements by companies and other companies, as support for basic PC software, Windows 7, was discontinued last January.

In April, demand for notebook-type products increased due to an increase in telework due to the impact of the new coronavirus, and shipments increased, but last month it turned to a decrease for the first time in two months.

The breakdown was 93,000 units for the desktop type, a large decrease of 54.5%, and 447,000 units for the notebook type, an 8% decrease.

According to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, "We expect the decline in notebook PCs to be smaller than expected and that demand for teleworking will continue to grow to some extent."
