Dozens of people demonstrate in the province of Soueida against the depreciation of the Syrian pound, which is further aggravating the economic crisis. The fall in the currency is driving up prices and making living conditions even more difficult.

But for the past ten days, in this Druze region of southern Damascus controlled by the regime, protesters have not only demonstrated against hunger. There are also calls to bring down Bashar al-Assad .

The regime is trying to stem the dispute. On Monday, the movement was violently suppressed and several people arrested. “  This regime can do nothing but repress. Since the beginning, these demonstrations of Soueida are peaceful, assures Rayan Maarouf, activist of the opposition in Soueida, for whom the Damascus regime has learned nothing from the mistakes of the past. People go out into the street, calmly, there have been no acts of vandalism, they are holding up signs and chanting slogans to demand a rule of law, a democratic country and also to demand the fall of this regime and the departure of foreign powers present in Syria. But this Monday, the procession of demonstrators was violently repressed both by the police and also by militiamen from the Baath party, the ruling party. This militia organized a counter-demonstration, therefore favorable to power, and its pro-regime militants attacked the anti-regimes using clubs and knives. The police then arrested some anti-regime protesters who are now missing.  "

On Wednesday, pro-regime demonstrators for their part denounced the American sanctions and gave their support to President Bashar al-Assad.
