Look closely at your next bills ... The regulated gas sales prices applied by Engie to millions of households should increase sharply in the second part of the year, unless a smoothing mechanism is put in place, warns this Friday the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).

"Current market prices suggest sharp increases in regulated sales prices until the end of 2020 after the sharp drop of July 1, 2020", writes the regulator in a notice. The evolution of the tariff at the beginning of July has not yet been officially decided but its drop is "estimated today at -4.6%".

Like last year…

Gas prices collapsed in the first half due to the health crisis but are expected to rebound. "If the government wishes to limit the extent of these developments, a smoothing mechanism similar to that of last year could be put in place," suggests the regulator, who "recommends" it.

The drop planned for early July could thus be canceled, which would then moderate developments for the rest of the year, when individuals use gas the most to heat themselves. A mechanism of this type had been decided last year, in the midst of a social movement originally triggered by the high costs of energy.
