As more and more people use electric kickboards, accidents are increasing significantly. However, even if you want to get insurance against accidents, there are no products that individuals can join.

Reporter Yoo Duck-ki reports.

<Reporter> In

late March, Yoo Geun-soo ran an unprotected left-turning vehicle across the road on an electric kickboard.

I was compensated for the repair cost by the other vehicle insurance company, but I suffered a lot.

[Yoo Geun-soo/Electric Kickboard Driver: The perpetrator said he was not wrong. I don't have an insurance company, so I keep being at home (I did.)]Accidents related to electric kickboards are soaring, as only one insurance company has increased the number of car accidents with electric kickboards by nearly 18 times in three years.

Some insurance companies offer insurance to shared kickboard companies, but there are no personal insurance plans.

Recently, the Seoul Southern District Court ruled that the electric kickboard is a two-wheeled vehicle that is subject to the automobile management law, that is, a motorcycle, but the interpretation is still mixed between the insurance industry and government departments.

Of course, if you look at a motorcycle, you must have compulsory insurance, but it is difficult to develop insurance for electric kickboards without a license plate.

An official from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said, "It is unreasonable to see an electric kickboard on a motorcycle. We are preparing a law for safe use of'personal vehicles' such as an electric kickboard.

[Hwang Hyun-Ah / Research Fellow, Insurance Research Institute: The overall structure of reimbursement when a person is injured and when a person's property is damaged is similar to that of auto insurance… .] The

Road Traffic Act was revised last month, so if you are 13 years of age or older without a separate license, you can drive an electric kickboard.

In the event of an increase in accidents, maintenance of related laws including insurance is urgent.
