As the aviation industry recovers: flight volume increases and passenger load factor picks up

In order to continue to do a good job in epidemic prevention and control, and at the same time to facilitate the exchange of international personnel, on June 4, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (hereinafter referred to as the "Civil Aviation Administration") issued the "Civil Aviation Administration's Notice on Adjusting International Passenger Flights" since June 8. Starting to adjust the current "five one" measures for international passenger flights.

The relevant person in charge of the Transportation Department of the Civil Aviation Administration said that the adjustment mainly involved the suspension of 95 foreign airlines flying passenger flights in my country. After the adjustment, the number of international passenger flights actually carried out each week shall not exceed 64. According to the calculation of the actual weekly execution rate of 75% since March 26, the actual weekly flight volume is about 150 flights, an actual increase of 50 flights.

From the perspective of domestic passenger flights, the "Securities Daily" reporter learned during the interview that the number of flights in May increased from the previous two months.

Li Li (pseudonym), the flight attendant of a large domestic airline, recently flew a round-trip flight from Beijing to Baotou. Compared to the previous two months where there was only one mission every month, the number of "flying" in May increased to three.

At the same time, more people attended the relevant meetings before each flight: in the past, three or four flight attendants participated in one department, and now there are more than ten people. "There are more people attending the meeting, which means that the number of flights to perform the flight task is increasing." Li Li told a reporter from "Securities Daily".

At the same time as the flight volume increased, the passenger load factor was gradually picking up. Judging from the major operating data released by the three major domestic airlines in April, the average passenger load factor of Air China has rebounded to 65.4%, the passenger load factor of Eastern Airlines is 64.21%, and the passenger load factor of China Southern Airlines is 63.35%. The passenger load factor in March was below 60%.

However, the reporter found that the occupancy rates of flights in different regions, different time periods and different routes are not different.

Zhang Cuixia, Dean of Yixue Investment Finance Research Institute, told the Securities Daily reporter that he flew from Beijing to Shanghai on June 2nd, probably because he chose the evening flight and the "small aircraft", the passengers were not Many, "but the back seats are basically full."

On June 1, Chen Li, director of Chuancai Securities Research Institute, returned to Beijing from Chengdu. This was his third business trip by plane after the Spring Festival. Chen Li told the "Securities Daily" reporter that the passenger load factor of his flight is about 60%, and he can clearly feel that the number of passengers flying this time is more than the previous two.

When Mr. Zhou, who travels frequently, traveled from Zhengzhou to Chengdu on May 25, his passenger load factor was very high. "Basically full." Mr. Zhou told reporters from the "Securities Daily" that judging from the situation of the entire airport, there are also many people. It seems that the situation has basically returned to normal.

Although the aviation industry is slowly recovering, in general, the impact of the epidemic on the entire industry should not be underestimated. China Eastern Airlines has previously stated that the impact and impact of the epidemic on the company's international and domestic business have great uncertainties in terms of duration and severity, and the specific impact still needs to be evaluated in conjunction with subsequent actual conditions. Juneyao Airlines said that the epidemic had a great impact on the company's transportation industry. There is a great uncertainty in the duration and severity of the epidemic. The company will continue to pay attention to the development situation of the epidemic and continuously adjust the capacity delivery arrangements.

One of the adjustment actions is to carry out the "customer to cargo" business to solve the serious shortage of air cargo capacity caused by the epidemic.

The captain of a large domestic airline, Ye Ming (pseudonym), has been flying international flights. Recently, he flew a charter flight to the United States. Ye Ming told a reporter from Securities Daily that in the two months before that, because of the epidemic situation, he had been flying a "passenger to cargo" flight, and he could "fly" two or three times a month.

For passenger airlines to carry out "passenger cargo", Jin Junhao, a second-level inspector of the Transportation Department of the Civil Aviation Administration, previously said at a press conference that this is an unconventional emergency measure during epidemic prevention and control, and it is a market self-rescue under special circumstances. .

It is worth noting that a few days ago, the Ministry of Finance and the Civil Aviation Administration issued a notice saying that subsidies will be given to the expenses incurred in the implementation of airline loading and modification projects during airline epidemic prevention and control. Two gears: each single-aisle aircraft has a maximum subsidy of 800,000 yuan, and two-aisle aircraft has a maximum subsidy of 1.45 million yuan. Awards will be given to non-passenger international cargo flights carried out during epidemic prevention and control. The award criteria are divided into eight gears according to the flight mileage and the maximum weight of the take-off.

As early as in March, the Civil Aviation Administration announced 16 measures to rescue the development of civil aviation enterprises and promote the resumption of production in an accurate and orderly manner. (Reporter Zhu Baochen Securities Daily)
