Most of the airlines that operate flights in Spain have already announced that they will resume commercial flights from July. The last to do so was Easyjet. The low-cost company, which already said last week that it will resume activity from the second half of June, points out that it will fly 50% of its usual summer routes in July and expects to reach 75% in the month of August.

Last week Iberia and Vueling also announced that they will resume the activity little by little from July, which is the month in which, in theory, Spain will allow the entry of foreign tourists.

The airline will have fewer flights, specifically, 30% of the usual capacity from July to September. Commercial flights to European capitals such as Paris, Milan or Rome will begin. Also to beach destinations such as the Balearic Islands or the Canary Islands.

Price war

Coinciding with this resumption of activity, Easyjet has launched the largest summer promotion in history, with up to a million seats in July and August starting at £ 29.99 (33.7 euros) to travel between July 1 and 31 October 2020.

"Travel restrictions are being lifted and demand is starting to return, so there is no better time for us to present this promotion, " said Javier Gándara, CEO of easyJet in Spain:

This return to activity will be accompanied by a price war, in order to capture a still suspicious demand to take planes for fear of contagion. Ryanair, which said weeks ago that it resumes its flights in July, has also warned that, in the current context, in order to attract travelers it will be necessary to lower prices.

Iberia and Vueling

Two of the IAG group companies, Iberia and Vueling, announced last week that they are also resuming commercial flights when restrictions are lifted. In Spain it will be in the month of July, although Italy, for example, will do so from next week.

The sector starts with a limited supply, which will increase depending on the summer demand . Iberia has put up for sale only 21% of the initially planned capacity, which could increase to 35% depending on the passenger demand and the removal of restrictions on mobility. You can travel to a minimum of 40 destinations in Spain and Europe in July and 53 in August.

Vueling will operate from July to 180 routes in Spain and Europe, it will try to recover about 2,000 weekly flights. The IAG airline will first reestablish connections in Spain, resuming from the end of June and during July up to 88 routes. British British Airways, also from the IAG group, will resume 50% of its flights from July.

Air Europe

Air Europa will resume its domestic flights from June 22 and will gradually resume its European and trans-oceanic operations from mid-July. The reactivation of its operations with the airline (whose purchase by Iberia is pending approval by Competition) will also be accompanied by a promotional campaign that will allow it to fly to the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands from 19 euros each way, to Europe and Canary Islands, from 29 euros; to the United States, from 99 euros, or to Latin America, from 219 euros.

From the beginning of July, Air Europa will progressively increase its connection network between the Peninsula and the islands and, in the middle of next month, will also reactivate part of its peninsular routes. It will operate a daily flight between Madrid and Barcelona, Bilbao, Vigo, La Coruña, Valencia, Alicante and Malaga.

As for the European and transoceanic routes, the reopening remains "subject to the evolution of the situation and the lifting of restrictions " by the different countries.
