[Commentary] At 9 o'clock in the morning, agronomist Yan Shengjun entered the Gobi agricultural shed in the Suzhou district of Jiuquan, Gansu, and observed the growth of this tomato crop. At the age of 48, he had spent half his life dealing with farming, and he also witnessed the development of Jiuquan Gobi agriculture from the "nothing" run by wind and stones to the "breaking into the world" of melons and fruits.

As an important commodity grain and cotton base and melon, fruit and vegetable base in China, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, which is close to the size of two Jiangsu provinces, has been continuously "opening up wasteland" on the vast Gobi Desert in recent years, transforming 10,000 mu of desert into a vibrant "vegetable basket" At present, the agricultural area of Gobi has reached more than 90,000 mu. Recalling that he had just started agriculture in the Gobi, Yan Shengjun said with a smile, hardly anyone believed it.

When we publicized to the farmers at the time, they said that when building a greenhouse on the Gobi Desert, no farmer said that you could grow vegetables, and they didn't believe it.

[Commentary] Jiuquan, located at the westernmost end of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu, has excellent conditions of light, hot water and soil. The local Jiuquan Gobi Agricultural Research Institute was established to tackle key technologies such as Gobi agricultural solar greenhouse construction and organic substrate soilless cultivation.

Fermentation and utilization of agricultural wastes such as crop stalks, livestock and poultry manure produced in the countryside, combined with local rich yellow sand, developed nine organic substrate cultivation formulas to form a complete set of organic ecological soilless cultivation suitable for Gobi agricultural applications Technical system, "waste recycling" model for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables "all year round".

In our previous traditional greenhouse, we turned the field over after the stubble planting, and so on. After these procedures were completed, there might be more than forty days and a half in the shed, which could not grow into crops. Our substrate grows this piece, and after putting this substrate into the ground, it basically stays still. The earliest demonstration of our substrate in 1999 is still in use today, so it can be used for almost 20 years once installed. There may be a crop that does not grow for two or three days in 365 days, and then a full-length crop.

【Commentary】 Wang Shengjun, deputy director of the Jiuquan Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Gansu Province, said that at the beginning of this century, the contradiction between Jiuquan's competition for grain and vegetables, ecology, and cultivated land for water has become increasingly prominent. "Wake up from a deep sleep."

High-efficiency water-saving, the economic benefit we produced in the Gobi solar greenhouse on the one side of the water is equivalent to the economic benefit generated by the 12 square meters of water in Datian. We can use 67 cubic meters of organic matter in a Gobi solar greenhouse, and we can eliminate this straw, livestock and poultry manure, and 125 cubic meters of these agricultural waste resources. We grow one mu of tomatoes in the Gobi solar greenhouse, which is equivalent to the economic benefits of growing 100 mu of wheat.

【Explanation】 As of 2019, Jiuquan Gobi Agriculture can provide more than 4 million tons of fruit and vegetable commodities to the market every year. With the continuous acceleration of “Going Out” in Jiuquan Gobi Fruits and Vegetables in recent years, it has attracted many overseas businessmen to come to “find business opportunities”, carefully cultivate high-quality fruits and vegetables, and continue to enrich the “world table”.
