The government announced Thursday the reopening, on Tuesday, of bars and restaurants in the green zones. At the microphone of Europe 1, Alain Joyes, restaurateur at Palavas-Les-Flots, welcomes this decision. But, he recalls, "we lost a lot of money".

INTERVIEW

The announcement relieved many professionals in the sector. Thursday, by presenting the second phase of deconfinement, Prime Minister Édouard Philippe announced the reopening, next Tuesday, of cafes, bars and restaurants in the "green" departments, while only the terraces of these establishments will reopen in the "zones" oranges ". At the microphone of Europe 1, Alain Joyes, restaurateur at Palavas-Les-Flots, in Hérault, welcomes this news on Friday.

For hotels, "reservations were already falling for July-August, so there was confidence in the deconfinement," he said. And Thursday evening, "as soon as the 100 kilometer barrier fell, we had a lot of reservations for the month of June." On the other hand, notes the restaurateur, "concerning restaurants, it is much more timid".

"You have to be realistic, we lost a lot of money"

"The hotel union had informed us of the requests it had made to ensure a minimum of profitability, then we were very pleasantly surprised to see that the government had accepted all of its measures," said Alain Joyes. But, he says, "you have to be realistic, we lost a lot of money".

"We may be able to balance the season," hopes the guest of Europe 1, adding that the town hall of Palavas-Les-Flots has granted the restaurants terraces a little larger than usual. On the other hand, the strict sanitary rules will inevitably impact the frequentation of his restaurant, warns Alain Joyes. "The rule of the separation of one meter between tables will generally cut by 50% the possibility of frequenting establishments." But, despite that, "I think there will be people," he concludes.
