A total of 11 people have been charged with the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, including three sentenced to death by the Saudi courts. A verdict qualified as a “travesty of justice” by human rights organizations which accuse Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salman of having ordered the assassination of this critical editorial writer of the regime.

It is in this context that Salah, the son of Jamal Khashoggi posted a message on Twitter this Friday, May 22, saying that his family forgave the murderers of his father. According to Sharia law applied in Saudi Arabia, the pardon of the victim's family could avoid the death penalty for those convicted. Salah Khashoggi, who lives in Saudi Arabia, had already assured that he had full confidence in the Saudi judicial system and accused the opponents of seeking to exploit this affair.

Meanwhile, Jamal Khashoggi's fiancé reacted to this statement. According to her " no one has the right to forgive the murderers of her husband ". Opponents in exile also signed a petition refusing this pardon and claiming that certain members of Jamal Khashoggi's family could not speak freely.
