  • De-escalation People arriving from abroad to Spain will have to be quarantined for 14 days

The European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) is monitoring air traffic and comparing it with the same period in 2019, and its conclusions are devastating: the coronavirus crisis has paralyzed civil aviation, with a reduction of 85.8 % in traffic.

Although air traffic has recovered slightly since May began, with 236 more movements than in the last week of April, there were 85.8% fewer flights in Europe than in the same week of 2019. To visualize the stoppage, The organization has produced graphs in which air traffic can be compared in both periods.

The situation does not appear to improve much despite the de-escalation . The relaxation of the restrictions on social contacts that many countries are allowing in the face of the reduction of coronavirus infections are in many cases accompanied by measures that hinder the entry of people from abroad to avoid so-called imported cases.

Thus, Spain has announced that, starting next Friday, people from other countries will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine. This is established by an order from the Ministry of Health that establishes the quarantine conditions to which international travelers must submit, a measure that has already been applied to the repatriations of Spaniards and residents in Spain from Italy .

Cross-border workers, carriers and crews, as well as health professionals who are going to carry out their work, are excepted, provided they have not been in contact with people diagnosed with coronavirus.

Travel agencies, tour operators and transport companies must inform travelers of these measures at the beginning of the ticket sales process. As part of the progressive lack of confidence in the country, the Spanish government will also reestablish controls from the air and sea borders from Friday 15 to May 24.
