The job market shocked by the spread of Corona19, the number of jobs last month fell the most in 21 years and 2 months.

According to the 'April 2020 Employment Trends' released by the National Statistical Office today (13th), the number of employed last month was 2,656,2,000, a decrease of 476,000 from the previous year.

This is the largest decline since February 1999 (658,000) after the financial crisis.

The employment rate for those over the age of 15 was 59.4%, down 1.4 percentage points from a year ago, the lowest since April 2010 (59.2%).

The fall was the largest since May 2009 (1.4 percentage points).

The OECD-based comparison rate for employment between 15 and 64 was also 65.1%, down 1.4 percentage points.

The economically active population was 277,34,000, a decrease of 550,000 from the same month of the previous year.

The non-economically active population who did not have a job search and did not get a job was counted at 1,6911,000, an increase of 831,000 from the same month last year.

The decline in the economically active population and the increase in the non-economically active population are the largest since June 2000, when the statistics were changed.

The number of unemployed people decreased by 73,000, to 1172,000, and the unemployment rate fell 0.2% to 4.2%.

The reason why the job market was so shocked is the shrinking consumption activity caused by the spread of corona19.

Soon-Hyun Eun, the head of the Social Statistics Bureau of the National Statistical Office, explained, "To prevent the spread of infection in Corona 19, there are continuing gatherings and refraining from going out, and the number of people in the accommodation, food and education service industries has decreased due to the sharp drop in tourists."
