The Central Bank denied that banknotes were a way to transmit the new Corona virus infection (Covid-19) more than others, but like any other plastic, metal, or wooden surfaces, calling on the users of banknotes to practice the same precautionary measures that apply On other surfaces.

The Central Bank told Emirates Today that bank notes can be like any other surface (plastic, metal, wood), a means of transmission of the new Corona virus.

He explained: «Until today, no study by an official, reliable body working in the field of printing or dealing in banknotes has proven that the new Corona virus (Covid-19) is transmitted faster through banknotes, compared to anything else that has Dry surface.

The central bank advised all banknotes to exercise the same precautionary measures that apply to other surfaces, such as washing hands with soap, or using antiseptics.

He added, "We encourage customers to use electronic banking channels, which in turn reduces the need to use banknotes, and to visit banks and ATMs."

Al-Markazi pointed out that he directed banks to need to sterilize their ATMs periodically, and to provide hand-sterilizing material for dealers besides those machines.

Banknotes can be a means of transferring "corona" as other surfaces.
