The Director of the Competition and Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry, Dr. Hashem Al-Nuaimi, stressed the continuation of imports in large quantities for various commodities, pointing out to reporters yesterday that the ministry started implementing a plan to deal with the markets of vegetables, fruits and perishable goods by providing large quantities from various sources , Thereby enhancing supply and preventing unjustified price rises in any commodity.

Al-Naimi stressed the availability of a strategic stock of basic food and consumer goods, foremost of which are wheat, corn and barley, as well as major commodities such as meat and poultry of all kinds, dates, oils, drinking water, milk, onions, potatoes and others.

Al-Naimi called on consumers to adhere to rational and safe shopping, and to stay away from the culture of commodity storage, pointing to the importance of reporting any wrong trade practices or commodity price raising operations, provided that the purchase invoice is maintained to prove the incident.

He also called on consumers to increase e-shopping rates and reduce traditional shopping during the current period, as part of the measures taken to deal with the repercussions of the emerging Corona Virus (Covid-19), pointing to the availability of mechanisms to deliver goods with quality and reliability, while preserving the consumer’s right to return The commodity is to the outlet, in case it violates the terms of purchase stated on the website.

He said that electronic shopping is equivalent to remote work at the present time, pointing out that the ministry is continuously following the electronic sales operations of commercial outlets, and confirms its complete readiness to provide high-quality sales services.

He pointed out that the ministry prepared an inspection plan in cooperation with local authorities, to achieve more stability in prices in the markets, pointing out that the oversight plan includes the regions of the country, and includes taking deterrent and immediate measures against manipulators, such as imposing large financial fines up to the closure.

Al-Naimi stated that the Ministry affirms daily, through social media, its daily follow-up of the markets, as well as its constant communication with suppliers, merchants and consumers during the coming period, to determine the state of the market, and ensure the abundance of goods, and the diversity of options before the consumer, as it works closely with merchants to confront Any challenges, and to ensure the smooth and continuous process of supplying markets with various commodities.
