Even if certain sectors manage to fare well, economic activity has generally collapsed since the start of the coronavirus crisis. And the Pays-de-la-Loire is no exception. Thus, the number of hours worked decreased on average by 36% in the region between the end of March and the end of February, reveals this Thursday the prefect Claude d'Harcourt.

The fall is "more or less strong depending on the sector". It stretches from -10% in the field of agriculture-fishing-forestry to -88% in that of construction. Industry sector activity declined by 40%. As for services, the drop varied from -15% to -39%.

To date, 44,000 requests for technical unemployment (partial unemployment) have been made by companies in the Pays-de-la-Loire, said the prefect. These requests concern 475,000 employees.

Aid for small businesses

The State has set up several assistance systems for businesses, in particular the National Solidarity Fund for small businesses (10 employees or less) having suffered a loss of turnover of more than 50% in March. The amount devoted by this fund to the Pays-de-la-Loire amounts to 63 million euros and the regional council participates in it up to 25 million euros.

Already 25,000 bonuses have been paid for amounts of 1,300 to 1,400 euros per company in March. Additional aid is also provided by this fund for businesses most in difficulty.

In parallel, the Pays-de-la-Loire regional council set up a Resilience Fund for small businesses which were not eligible for the National Solidarity Fund. It consists of paying repayable advances. Its total envelope amounts to 32 million euros.
