The Amancio Ortega Foundation has made purchases of medical equipment to deal with the coronavirus for a value of 63 million euros.

As reported by the foundation in a statement, the material purchase efforts "continue in progress with the aim of continuing to increase the volume of material purchased."

This material includes 1,450 respirators for intensive care units, three million filter masks for the use of health personnel, one million virus detection kits and other equipment for health centers, such as hospital beds (450 units).

The management of the purchase is carried out thanks to the cooperation of the textile giant Inditex, a company where Ortega is a majority shareholder, and thanks to the company's powerful logistics network.

FIRST SHIPMENTS

These donations are being carried out following the technical-sanitary indications of the Spanish authorities and "the material acquired is being made available to them after receipt in our country."

The first games (respirators and detection tests) are already in Spain and the majority of shipments are expected to be received in the first fortnight of April.

Inditex announced two weeks ago that it would put its logistics network at the service of the authorities to facilitate the shipment of material, especially from China. Some of the sanitary material that the group is going to send to Spain to help in the coronavirus crisis arrived weeks ago.

The idea is to make a weekly shipment, depending on the needs and how the situation evolves. " We are exploring the ability to convert part of our textile manufacturing capacity to sanitary material production, for which the Inditex production team has been involved," the group said in a statement weeks ago.

Inditex is the largest textile company in the world, but it has more than 3,800 stores closed and sales in the first half of March fell by 24% as a result of the closure of stores and the uncertainty derived from the pandemic.

Mango

Another textile company that is donating masks is Mango. Today the two million masks donated by the Catalan chain to the Ministry of Health have arrived in Spain. The material has landed at Zaragoza Airport, from where the chain will begin its distribution to make it reach hospital centers across the country, using its own logistics network.

Mango has also made its logistics available to the authorities , in order to coordinate and facilitate shipments. Remember that these textile companies have a powerful network worldwide and most have factories in China.
