The Prime Minister has announced this Saturday a new twist to the measures of confinement to society. Starting this Monday, all non-essential economic activity will be stopped for at least two weeks, while the state of alarm lasts.

What economic activities can open this Monday? The Prime Minister has ordered the closure, since Monday, of all activities not considered essential. It was one of the claims of many autonomous presidents and the formula that has been used in Italy for a few weeks. Asked about the sectors affected by this new measure, Sánchez has referred to the sectors already defined in the first decree that proclaimed the state of alarm. Initially, much of the industry and, for example, the construction sector, were allowed to open. From Monday, those factories whose production has not adapted to the manufacture of sanitary material or that are considered critical for the supply of food, supplies or essential goods will not open their doors. Since when will the total lock of the economy? The Government will approve tomorrow, in an extraordinary Council of Ministers, this measure, which will be in force from the same Monday until the state of alarm continues. For now, until April 9, who will pay the workers who must stay at home? The Government has announced a paid permit for workers in non-essential activities who do not go to work these two weeks, starting Monday, 30 March through April 9. According to Sánchez, while this exceptional state lasts, the workers "will receive their wages normally" thanks to this permit. "The idea is that a worker who works on a construction site, from March 30 will not do it and may have that paid leave. Instead, a nurse will do it," the president has given as an example. When the health emergency ends, according to Sánchez, the workers must recover the hours of work not provided, gradually and spaced over time, as the president has specified. In some way, it means having two weeks of paid vacation, but that must be returned to companies progressively. Is this agreed with employers and unions? Sánchez has only said that unions and employers have been informed of this new measure. The president hopes that it will serve to decongest hospitals. "It is a forceful measure," said the president, who explained that the objective is to reduce mobility so that it resembles what you have on weekends.
