The announcement of the opening of a Huawei factory in France is one more step in the Chinese giant's strategic reorientation towards Europe. However, with this seduction operation, the group also hopes to win contracts to establish 5G in France.

It is a minimum investment of 200 million euros which should lead to the creation of 500 jobs. The Chinese telecoms giant Huawei announced Thursday the installation in France of a factory producing radio equipment for 5G in France. It will be his first installation of this type outside of China.

A reorientation towards Europe

A decision that supports the words of Minggang Zhang, deputy general manager of Huawei France, a few weeks ago on Europe 1: "The European market is becoming almost vital, so we are working on a new strategy in Europe, and obviously in France." Banned or almost banned from the United States by Donald Trump, Huawei is therefore going out of its way to seduce Europe. The factory that the giant intends to install in France, whose location has not yet been decided, will supply all of Europe.

Will the seduction operation bear fruit?

At the Ministry of the Economy we talk about good news which shows that France has become attractive again. But that does not prevent him from warning that this charming operation will have no impact on Huawei's future contracts in France. Because therein lies the challenge: should we or should we not give a lot of contracts to the second seller of smartphones in France in the development of 5G on the territory? If most of the operators praise its technological advance, only the result of the contracts will make it possible to see if the Chinese telecoms giant was right, or not, to promise this factory.
