Authorities have decided to close schools and universities in Tehran on Sunday and Monday. In several provinces of the country, this closure will continue until Friday.

Similarly, all cinemas will be closed until Friday across the country and all cultural events and concerts canceled. All sports competitions have been canceled for the next ten days.

These drastic measures were taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which appeared a week ago in the holy city of Qom with the deaths of two people.

According to the authorities, most of the people dead or infected with the virus are from Qom and have stayed there for the past few days. The holy city of Qom is indeed a high place of pilgrimage for Shia Muslims. Many Iraqi, Afghan, Pakistani or pilgrim pilgrims from the Persian Gulf countries regularly visit the city. Not to mention the Iranian pilgrims.

With these new measures, the fear of a spread of the virus has grown in the country. Pharmacies are stormed by citizens who want to buy masks or gloves. In the official media and on social networks, information is increasing to warn the population and inform people about how to protect themselves.
