Tobacconists will be able to collect local taxes on behalf of the DGFiP - Clément Follain

"Hello, I would like a pack of cigarettes, a scratch game and pay my taxes". This request may seem surprising, and yet it could become generalized. From February 24, it will be possible to pay local taxes, fines and utility bills in ten test departments (Corrèze, Côtes-d'Armor, Corse-du-Sud, Gard , Loire, Marne, Oise, Haute-Saône, Vaucluse and Yvelines). This innovation will then be gradually extended to all of France on July 1.

Gérald Darmanin, Minister of Action and Public Accounts, justified this reform by "increased accessibility to paying taxes thanks to the network and hourly ranges of tobacconists". He also assured that tax secrecy would be kept.

However, some voices, notably among the unions of the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP), question the reform. They question the security of the data which will now be managed by the Française des jeux, which will soon be privatized. While at the same time, the ministry continues to cut thousands of jobs at the DGFiP.

Do you think the reform is going in the right direction and are you ready to go pay your local taxes at the tobacco shop? Or go and pay your PV on the spot? On the contrary, you do not want to mix your tobacconist with your finances? Come and give us your opinion on this reform.
