The National Court has given the green light for the former Vice President of the Government of Spain and former President of Bankia Rodrígo Rato to leave prison for the first time. According to Interior sources, the prison judge of the National Court has approved that Rato is released from prison. He has granted two prison permits of six days each that he can begin to dispose of in the next few days.

The judge, on the other hand, has ruled against the progression of Rato to the third degree.

For the approval of the permits, the judge already had the endorsement of the Treatment Board of the prison, which, in his report, valued positive behavior in the prison . Rato has been in prison for more than 16 months, which is a quarter of the sentence he was sentenced to, at which point under prison law he can start enjoying permits if there are no reports against him.

The judge understands that there is no risk of escape and that his behavior in prison has given no reason why he can no longer enjoy the first permits. Likewise, it indicates family roots as a positive element also to be taken into account to grant these permits.
