In late January, the electoral commission had invalidated his candidacy for the legislative elections , accusing him in particular of having supported terrorism in posts on social networks. It was therefore the Supreme Court that quashed this decision. Five judges out of nine considered that there was no " critical mass " of formal and convincing evidence in this case which justified " invalidating " his candidacy.

" I will continue on the same path "

The judges also stated in their pleadings that they had taken into account the " regrets " expressed by the member " on some of her publications ". Heba Yazbak was not surprised by the decision. It “ was planned because there is no evidence against me. I will continue on the same path… For justice, equality, for democracy and for the end of the occupation, ”she said.

Support for a figure from Lebanese Hezbollah

Member of the Arab nationalist Balad party , Heba Yazbak had notably displayed his support for a Lebanese Hezbollah figure, Samir Kantar, who served a life sentence in Israel for the murder of Israelis in 1979, before being released in 2008.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted on his Twitter account. " From now on, Benny Gantz will also depend on this member who praises terrorists, if he wants to form a government ."
