The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority confirmed that 10 thousand new government services at the federal and local levels will be added to the services that can be accomplished with a "digital identity" during the year 2020, pointing out that the number of services, which are accomplished with the digital identity until the end of 2019, reached 5,000 services Governmental.

The authority revealed to "Emirates Today" that the number of individuals who have downloaded the application for "digital identity" and are currently using it exceeded 200 thousand users.

The «Telecommunications Regulation» indicated that individuals can perform many services through the “digital identity”, such as the transactions of “Tamm centers” in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and smart services for the applications of the ministries: the Interior, infrastructure development, education, economy, energy and industry, health and community protection Finance, Justice, Human Resources and Emiratization, Community Development, Culture and Knowledge Development, as well as the Insurance Authority, Sheikh Zayed Housing Program, Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Smart Department, Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, and Roads and Transport Authority Dubai, and the Authority General for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, the Federal Customs Authority, Etisalat, the Emirates Development Bank, the Federal Authority for Water and Electricity, the General Authority for Pensions, and the Emirates Post Group.

The «Telecommunications Regulatory Authority» mentioned that the advantages of “digital identity” compared to the regular ID card, is the unified entry to government services, and the lack of the need to remember a user name and password, pointing out that “digital identity” provides the feature of digital signature, and verification of the signature easily.

She noted that "digital identity" can be replaced in all government dealings, in the event that there is a link between the "digital identity" and these agencies, as long as there is no law or policy prohibiting this.

It is noteworthy that, according to the "Telecommunications Regulation", a "digital ID" is issued by downloading the person applying the digital ID on the user's smartphone, and scanning the Emirates ID card, and then the person enters the mobile phone number and email.

She added that she promoted digital participation through the voluntary outsourcing project for about 17 thousand users, whom the authority asked them to evaluate the content of the portal and provide it with their observations, highlighting deficiencies and errors if any, confirming the success of the experiment, as the authority was able to develop the portal content, and strengthened the culture of digital participation.

The number of electronic posts on the participation portal also increased during 2019 to reach 200, compared to half of that number in 2018.

The authority noted that the UAE ranked sixth in the "Smart Services Index", in the United Nations questionnaire for e-government in 2018, expressing its hope to reach the third position during 2019 when issuing the results, up to the first position in the next evaluation, in implementation of the agenda " UAE Vision 2021 », that the UAE be a vanguard country in the world.

Exodus into the virtual world

The UAE, represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, concluded its participation in the work of the International Information Security Forum in its first session, which was held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, reviewing the changes taking place in the world, including mass exodus towards the virtual world.
