The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority reported that the general consumer price index reached 108.2 points last December, compared to 109.7 points during the same month in 2018, a decrease of 1.37% on an annual basis.

In the report “Inflation December 2019” yesterday, which covers the change in the prices of 12 main commodities and services to the consumer, the authority stated that the decrease came as a result of the decline in prices of eight main groups: clothing and shoes by 7.6%, housing, water and electricity by 4.9%, restaurants and hotels by 1.3% And food and beverages increased by 1.07%, as the sub-group representing fish and seafood achieved its biggest decrease during the past year, amounting to 5.4%.

The prices of the transport services group decreased by 0.8%, communications by 0.09%, health care services by 0.07% and a variety of goods and services by 0.07%.

Meanwhile, the prices of four other major commodity groups increased: entertainment and culture by 23.2%, tobacco by 6.4%, equipment, furniture and household equipment by 1.4% and education by 0.7%.

To that, the report "Federal Competitiveness and Statistics", that the rate of inflation decreased on a monthly basis last December by 0.2% compared to the previous month of November.
