Emirates Airlines supported the trip of Princess Muhammad Al-Harnaki Al-Marzouki and her two colleagues to the Arctic region to study environmental changes caused by global warming. Amira is an Emirati student, seeking to lead environmental change, raise awareness about sustainability issues, and stimulate the younger generation in the UAE.

The Arctic is filled with massive ice sheets that are home to large numbers of polar bears, reindeer deer and puffin birds, as well as other types of plants and animals. This fragile ecosystem suffers from accelerated climate change and high temperatures. The impact of global warming on the Arctic has caused sea levels to rise, irregular climatic patterns in the Northern Hemisphere and a loss of biological diversity.

In June 2019, Amira traveled on a six-day trip as climate climate ambassador with ClimateForce Global with the 2041 Foundation and under the umbrella of the Leadership on the Edge Program. The mission of the Foundation is to inspire and engage the initiative's youth, businessmen and politicians in taking environmental actions. Emirates has supported the journey of Princess, Maitha Al Zaabi and Shorouk Al Sharhan to Norway, from where they embarked on their expedition to the North Pole. This was the princess's third expedition, after she traveled to Antarctica in 2015 and 2016.

During the expedition, Amira and her two colleagues watched close glaciers melt and icebergs break down. The Arctic did not escape from plastic pollution and marine debris, which confirms the urgent need to take the necessary measures and combat the effects of climate change.

Amira is constantly communicating with local schools and universities to showcase its exploratory adventures and help inspire the new generation of environmental pioneers, by monitoring natural resource consumption, renewable energy use, recycling and adopting sustainability practices. Amira believes that simple steps help in making a positive impact in the long run.

In her quest to find other ways to effect change, a princess opened a green washing shop, with the aim of using eco-efficient devices and biodegradable detergents and to reduce the impact of dyes on the local environment in the UAE. The store is the first of its kind in Ras Al Khaimah, and Amira hopes to inspire other entrepreneurs to take similar steps.

Emirates' support for this mission comes to the Arctic as part of its commitment to environmental conservation and biodiversity activities around the world. The sustainability and environmental future of the globe are fundamental issues within the carrier's long-term goals.

Emirates Airlines encourages endeavors to conserve wildlife by supporting biodiversity and protecting fragile ecosystems by financing the Dubai Desert Reserve and managing the Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley Resort in Australia.
