The Ministry of Economy has called on outlets, cooperative societies, pharmacies and medical stores across the United Arab Emirates not to raise prices for respirators and sterilizers against the backdrop of high demand for them in the current period in conjunction with the spread of the Corona virus and the declaration of the World Health Organization as a global health emergency as a result.

The ministry stated that exploiting the case of high consumer demand for these materials and raising their prices is a practice that violates the provisions of the relevant laws, foremost of which is Federal Law No. 24 of 2006 regarding consumer protection, and that this would expose the violator to the penalty stipulated by law.

The Ministry confirmed that it will continue its campaigns and inspection tours on the concerned markets and outlets in the various emirates of the country, in cooperation with the competent local authorities, to ensure full commitment to not raising prices and not exploiting the increase in demand.

The Ministry called on consumers all over the country to contact the Consumer Protection Complaints Contact Center at the number 600-522225 or with local supervisory authorities to register any complaints related to raising the prices of these medical materials.
