Renfe will next Monday kick off the flagship project of its renovation as an operator in a liberalized market. For a period of 10 days, the public company will sell 10,000 tickets on the high-speed route between Madrid and Barcelona for five euros.

From April 6, Renfe will put the Avlo into service with three frequencies per direction and day and stops in Madrid, Zaragoza and Barcelona. Starting in May, it will add a fourth frequency, which will be completed with one more as of September 2020, to set up a service with five frequencies per direction and day, which is the one that will face the arrival of Ouigo, the low cost bird of the French operator SCNF.

The ticket schedules start with three frequencies that start from their origins in Barcelona and Madrid with a first train that leaves after nine in the morning and arrives at destination almost three hours later . There is another frequency at four in the afternoon and another about 20 hours.

The tickets of the offer can only be purchased through the web and on the condition that they are registered users . Unlike the AVE tickets, the AVLO tickets are nominative tickets, that is, it only serves to get on the train the traveler whose name appears on the ticket.

The only stop will be in Zaragoza, although other intermediate points of the corridor such as Lleida have already asked Fomento for its desire that the service will stop at its station. The city council has assured today that the mayor has recalled in his letter to the head of Renfe that there are more than 18,000 daily trips between the province of Lleida and Barcelona, which offers great potential for rail passenger transport that justifies that the city Have this new service with an adequate number of frequencies. In fact, the mayor is promoting a common front "to ensure that all citizens of Lleida can access the high speed on equal terms as other areas of the country and to ensure the competitiveness of the territory."

The AVLO will differ from the AVE in the services included in the ticket. Your passengers will have less rights when transporting luggage or making changes to tickets, for example. The commitment of punctuality of the company and the corresponding compensation will not be the same.

Renfe indicates that with this service, the AVE wants to "democratize" the AVE, although this democratization is guided by an economic logic : the service will be provided exclusively in "potential markets of more than one million customers per year, through customer acquisition from other means of transport, such as the plane, the bus and, above all, the private vehicle. "

At the moment, everything that is outside the Madrid Barcelona high-speed corridor is only under study.

The company managed to chain in 2019 a new annual historical record of passengers transported on its High Speed (AVE) trains, since they added up to 22.4 million , which represents an increase of 4.9%, that is, 'winning' a million new travelers and break the 22 million barrier. It already has seven consecutive years reaping annual passenger records with the AVE, since in 2013 the price of all tickets was lowered. The increase has also been parallel to the extension of the High Speed corridors and their arrival in new cities. In fact, the 22.4 million travelers who chose AVE last year double the 11.2 million counted in 2009, at the beginning of the crisis,
