Lebanese justice has banned ousted car magnate Carlos Ghosn from leaving the country on Thursday following a request for arrest by Interpol, with Japan demanding the extradition of the businessman accused of financial embezzlement. " I'm not worried at all. I expected this, it was not a surprise, "said the former CEO of Renault-Nissan in an interview with France 24.

In this interview granted to France 24 and recorded in Beirut this Thursday, January 9, the fallen car magnate notably compared Japanese justice to that of North Korea, China and Soviet Russia. " If you cannot defend yourself, you will be sentenced in all cases, " he said, regarding the procedure against him in Japan where he is accused of financial embezzlement.

" You have people who want you not to get away with it (...). You know, if you were in North Korea, or if you are in China, or if you were in Soviet Russia ... ", continued Carlos Ghosn.

" Is it comparable?" Asks Marc Perelman who leads the interview. " Ah, absolutely. As soon as there is a denial of justice, it is comparable. When there is a denial of justice, it is a denial of justice, ”he replied.

Lebanese justice has banned Thursday the former boss of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance to leave the country following a request for arrest of Interpol, Japan demanding his extradition.

In the aftermath of a spectacular press conference in Beirut, the first public appearance since he fled Tokyo in late December, the 65-year-old businessman, however, said he was ready to " cooperate " with Lebanese justice.

Carlos Ghosn, who claims his innocence and claims to be the victim of a conspiracy, is the subject of four charges in Japan: two for deferred income not declared to the stock exchange authorities by Nissan (who is also prosecuted on this aspect), and two others for aggravated breach of trust. Arrested in November 2018, the one who was the highest paid entrepreneur in Japan had been forced to give up all his mandates at the head of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi. He was released on bail in April 2019, after 130 days in prison.
