The State Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has issued a decision requiring subscribers who are forced to early termination of contracts for communications with operators to pay fees equal to one month's rent, as of January 1.

The authority told Emirates Today that the decision applies to old and new telecommunications contracts concluded with the licensees of the two companies, Etisalat and du, which are part of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company. The decision also includes mobile and fixed contracts and the Internet alike.

The authority indicated that the decision does not cancel the commitment of subscribers to pay the price of devices for services in cases of early termination of a particular service, noting that these amendments come within the framework of enhancing the quality of telecommunications services, and ensuring that these services reach various social segments on satisfactory terms, as well as applying the best international standards Regarding the services provided by the licensees in the country, and to give more freedom and flexibility to users in choosing the services they want.

The «Telecommunications Regulation» added that the decision also comes in the context of unifying all fees for termination of service contracts that require payment of termination fees, which makes it easier for customers to calculate the costs of services that they wish to use.
