In the Gaza Strip, calm seems to have returned after a week of deadly military escalation. 34 people were killed in the Palestinian territory during Israeli bombings aimed in particular at Islamic Jihad leaders. A ceasefire was declared Thursday morning, but not respected on both sides. The weapons seem this time to be silent.

This is the first time since Tuesday that the Gaza Strip knows a day of calm, even if it is a very precarious calm. Despite last night's Israeli raids on Islamic Jihad targets, there is still no Palestinian response.

The traditional gathering of the Great March back along the separation barrier was canceled on Friday afternoon. On the other hand, protests against the ceasefire continued during the day and into the evening.

Participants call on the factions to resume rocket fire to avenge the 34 Palestinians . The division between Islamic Jihad, which has been targeted by the Jewish state, and Hamas, which has stood aside, is becoming more visible.

Coming with condolences, one of the leaders of the ruling Islamist movement in the Gaza Strip was fired Friday afternoon from the home of the Islamic Jihad cadre targeted by Israel, whose death triggered the latest deadly escalation.
