In Lebanon, a country shaken since October 17 by a protest movement, the situation deteriorated dangerously Tuesday, November 12 with the resumption in the night of road closures and violence between protesters and the army. One person was killed during an altercation between protesters and soldiers.

As life began timidly to resume its normal course in Lebanon, thousands of people took to the streets of Beirut and other cities just minutes after the end of a television interview granted by the President of the Republic. Tuesday. Groups of angry protesters have begun closing the roads inside the capital and between different parts of the country. They wanted to express their disappointment after the intervention of Michel Aoun, judging that the head of state had not met their expectations.

Many blamed him for calling the protesters out of Lebanon. A clarification from the presidential palace, which said that Mr. Aoun's remarks had been distorted, did not convince the crowds. Neither the promises of the president of a future appointment of a new Prime Minister and the consideration of all the demands of the challenge to the fight against corruption and the implementation of real economic, social and even political reforms .

Calls for the resignation of President Michel Aoun are being heard more and more. In the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the protest was enamelled with violence that made a death, a supporter of Druze leader Walid Jumblatt, killed during an altercation with a patrol of the Lebanese army who wanted to circulate via a closed road by the protesters at the southern entrance to Beirut. Mr. Jumblatt quickly went to the scene to call his men calm, and the Lebanese army announced the arrest of the soldier who opened fire.

Violence has also occurred in some parts of the capital, when protesters stoned Lebanese soldiers who were trying to open the roads. The military tried in vain to clear some blocked arteries, but finally had to give up before the determination of the protesters. This Wednesday, November 13, 2019, Lebanon is a country paralyzed from north to south. Schools, universities and banks are closed.
