The Emirates Authority for Standardization (specifications) has issued six million smart chip, radio technology «RFID», to put on the tires of vehicles since the beginning of 2018, until the end of last September.

During a press conference held in Dubai yesterday to announce the start of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the safety requirements of tires, the Authority said that during the same period, it issued 14 thousand certificates of certification of tires according to the Gulf standard, pointing out that the campaign will last three months.

The Director General of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (SASO), Abdullah Al-Muaini, said that the plans and initiatives of the Authority are keen to align with the goals of the National Agenda 2021 and the resulting goals such as reducing the number of deaths resulting from road accidents per 100,000 inhabitants. He pointed out in this regard that the TRA seeks to ensure that the national markets are provided with tires conforming to the UAE standard specifications, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency and quality.

He added that «specifications» adopted a national system for the control of vehicle tires, which is the first of its kind at the regional level, launching a generation of smart chips installed on vehicle tires, to become a guaranteed way to verify the safety and validity of tires used.

He pointed out that the TRA issued about six million smart chip tires, working with radio technology «RFID» from the beginning of 2018, until the end of last September, within the unique smart system created by «specifications», and entered into force mandatory three years ago, pointing During the same period, more than 14,000 tire certification certificates were issued according to the Gulf standard.

The main objective of the development of such segments was to provide controls to protect lives and reduce traffic accidents resulting from the use of poorly made or recycled tires.

For his part, the Director of the Department of Standards, Khalaf Khalaf, revealed a national campaign at the state level to raise awareness of the safety and safety requirements in tires, pointing out that the campaign will be in two directions: the first through social networking platforms of the Authority and its partners from government agencies and tire companies. The second trend will be a field that includes posters and letters placed on 50 large school buses spread over different emirates roaming the country for the three months, the duration of the campaign from the date of its inception, yesterday.

Khalaf said that the Authority and its partners will establish an awareness platform, attended by experts and technicians from the Authority and tire companies at Mirdif City Center, to communicate directly with consumers and explain the benefits resulting from the use of tires conforming to the UAE and Gulf standards, as well as how to verify compliance with specifications, and the importance of The use of RFID and its role in ensuring maximum safety and security, especially as it ensures that the tire conforms to specifications.

He added that this technology ensures the traceability of the tire, and all its technical information, to become a guaranteed way to verify the safety and validity of the tires used.

Storage requirements

Khalaf Khalaf, Director of the Standards Department at the Emirates Authority for Standardization (Specification), said that the Gulf specifications adopted and applied in the UAE, provide the necessary storage requirements for tires, so as not to be affected performance so that the shelf life of tires from the date of production to the date of sale to the consumer does not exceed 24 months For passenger and bus tires, the consumer shall be given a guarantee document for the tire provided that it shall not be less than one year from the date of sale.

He added that the guarantee applies to tires attached to the new vehicles.
