WTO Japan-Korea's second round of discussion 19th Switzerland to be held November 8th 11:46

A second round of talks between the Japanese and Korean governments based on the WTO = World Trade Organization dispute resolution procedure will be held in Switzerland on 19th this month, over Japan's stricter export controls to Korea.

In response to the Japanese government's strict export control of three items such as semiconductor raw materials for Korea since July, South Korea has entered into the procedure to file a complaint with the WTO in September, saying that this is an unfair measure. .

According to the WTO rules, if a trade dispute occurs, the parties will first consult with each other and seek to find a solution. Based on this, the second bilateral talks by the Japanese and Korean governments will be held on this month. Will be held in Geneva, Switzerland.

In the first consultation held last month, the Korean side claimed that the measure violated the WTO rules, while the Japanese side violated the rules by reviewing operations necessary for proper export control. It ends with parallel lines as if not.

It is expected that both positions and ideas will be explained again in the second round of discussion, and there is no sign of compromise, and there is an increased possibility of proceeding to a hearing at the “sub-committee”, the court of the WTO.

“We would like to firmly insist on Japan's position to solve the problem,” said Mr. Hatakeyama at a press conference after the cabinet meeting.
